Meet the Company

Origins

Collateral & Co., a  collaborative, Contemporary dance company, was founded in May 2017 when Founder and Artistic Director Caitlin Bell returned home to the Reno, Nevada area after working for New York-based Gallim Dance. Collateral & Co. explores the intricacies of the human experience and investigates the nuances of everyday life through the exploration of written word, physical and emotional experiences, and bodily expression.

The company’s body of work includes performances at Reno Little Theater for the premiere of their first work Gunpowder and Femme in 2017, the production of The Poetry Movement, a 2018 Artown site specific dance performance at Sundance Books and Music, Dust Horizon at the Nevada Museum of Art in April 2019, Dust Settled as part of Artown in 2019, The Space Above at the Nevada Museum of Art in February 2020, and Across the Neon Landscape at the Nevada Museum of Art in July 2022 and at the Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival in August of the same year. The company has performed site specific works at Nevada Humanities’ 2018, 2019 and 2022 Literary Crawls and commissions throughout the Reno community.

The company filmed its first dance film, The Space Above, produced and directed by Tweaking Reality Studios, in October 2019. This film was named an official selection of the Utah Dance Film Festival and the Third Coast Dance Film Festival. The evening-length dance work of the same name premiered at the Nevada Museum of Art in February of 2020. The company was honored to create a dance film titled Believe, produced and directed by Tweaking Reality Studios, which evaluated life during a pandemic and premiered as part of TEDxReno’s virtual event in July of 2020. In July 2021, the company’s evening-length dance film, Felt Like Five, premiered at the Nevada Museum of Art and was also shown at The Virgil.

In July of 2025, the company will perform their eighth evening-length work, Fragments of Existence, at the Nevada Museum of Art.
